Located at 2223 E 17th St in Idaho Falls, Evergreen China Buffet has garnered mixed reviews from its patrons. Despite the fluctuations in diners' experiences, each visit unveils something unique. Carol Simmons highlights the plethora of options available during lunch hours, particularly praising the fresh shrimp and mushrooms potstickers, though she cautions against the less appealing sushi and dishes left out too long.
Another reviewer, known as Living Life And Loving It, noted that while the flavors are commendable, they could benefit from a reduction in salt and MSG. I am from Washington endless camera for a China Buffet. It's about 2:00 in the afternoon and they had lots of options. The food is pretty good some of it was been sitting there for a while so it's pretty hard to eat. I don't think I suggest the sushi for it didn't look very good. The best thing I loved was the fresh shrimp, the mushrooms potstickers. They have a variety of dessert items. I also suggest waiting for the chicken for sweet n sour chicken.
Personally, they have some pretty good food, but I think they might use a bit too much salt and possibly MSG. And their dumplings are a bit dry at times.
I give these guys a 5. I've eaten here multiple times a year for 23 years. I took my children here when they were little. They still know their names and they are in and graduated from college. I would add a 6th star if I could for consistency. I don't like change. They have kept all my favorite foods for 23 years and they have almost all stayed the same. If they change something it's usually for the better. Also when they don't have my favorite items out, they make them and bring them to me. The managers and some of the employees have also stayed the same. This is hands down one of my favorite places for a quick meal on my own.
On a Thursday 4pm, less than 10 people in the restaurant, every meal was surprisedly warm, fresh and full. But like said in another comment, everything is too salty or too much MSG idk. The Sushis are the worst no taste at all, the dessert lack of taste also. The buffet was 15.90$ tx in.
Service was great. Egg drop soup was really good. Everything else was cold which I thought was weird for buffet. May give it another chance since people so nice
Food/Taste/Flavor: 4/5 - it's good if you know what you're getting into. We were a bit worried reading all the negative reviews but it's actually a pretty typical Chinese Buffet. There may be use of MSG (sometimes too much) as you can taste the saltiness/sweetness in many dishes including the sweet and sour soup and many of the chicken dishes Good: steamed clams (especially if you enjoy fermented black beans), mussels on ice, fried shrimp (does have shell), sweet and sour soup (does have mushroom), steamed fish, broccoli chicken, brownie :D Avoid: sushi isn't really sushi, potsticker (large one or fried bun), pork hock is very salty, the two dishes with imitation crabs with one overwhelmingly salty and the other very queasy, donut was bready, dishes that look like they've been sitting out for a while since it could be quite dry Ambience: 3/5 - nice decorations but it's a bit older as things are worn/faded and you can see long term stains in some areas Service: 5/5 - one dude did everything front of the house from seating us, getting drinks, cleaning tables, closing checks, vacuuming the floor, etc! Was still attentive and friendly the entire time Value for price: 5/5 - we're from out of state so $16ish for a buffet is an amazing deal
